# From Middle East Conflicts: Usage Trends of Drones and Missiles in Future Modern Warfare

In recent regional conflicts in the Middle East, the combat application of unmanned aerial vehicles and precision missiles has become increasingly prominent, presenting a brand-new tactical pattern for modern warfare. Based on actual combat performance and equipment cost, tactical positioning and industrial development trends, we objectively analyze the application proportion, functional positioning and development direction of drones and missiles in future wars.

In recent rounds of regional confrontations in the Middle East, the tactical delivery volume of drones and missiles has shown obvious hierarchical characteristics. In the initial stage of the conflict, long-range missiles and cruise missiles were mostly used to strike core strategic targets such as command hubs, important infrastructure and defensive positions, achieving rapid strategic suppression and breaking through defensive deployment in a short time. As the conflict enters the continuous confrontation stage, the delivery quantity of various types of drones rises rapidly, gradually becoming the main equipment for daily tactical strikes, frontier harassment, line suppression and field target strikes.

From the actual delivery ratio in actual combat, in medium and long-term regional conflicts, the comprehensive usage quantity of drones is far higher than that of traditional missiles. Among all offensive strike equipment invested in the whole conflict cycle, drones account for a relatively high proportion, while missiles are mainly concentrated in the early high-intensity strategic strike stage, with a gradual decline in subsequent continuous input quantity. This ratio change is not only affected by tactical needs, but also closely related to equipment manufacturing cost, mass production capacity and battlefield application advantages.

In terms of equipment cost and supply capacity, there is a huge gap between the two types of equipment. Conventional medium and long-range missiles involve complex core technologies such as guidance, power and penetration, with high single-unit manufacturing cost, long production cycle and limited annual stable output, which makes it difficult to support large-scale and continuous high-frequency delivery for a long time. In contrast, civilian and military dual-purpose conventional strike drones have mature manufacturing technology, streamlined production procedures, lower overall procurement cost, and can realize large-scale mass production in a short period, with sufficient equipment inventory and supply capacity to adapt to long-term continuous battlefield consumption.

From the perspective of battlefield adaptability and tactical functions, the two types of equipment have their own irreplaceable positioning, forming a complementary combat system. Missiles feature long range, fast strike speed, strong penetration capability and high strike accuracy, and are suitable for fixed-point removal of high-value strategic targets, completing decisive strategic strikes and achieving established strategic objectives efficiently.

Drones have outstanding advantages such as flexible maneuvering, low flight altitude, diverse task forms and low battlefield loss risk. They can undertake diversified tasks such as field reconnaissance, real-time battlefield monitoring, light armor target strike, supply line interference and regional patrol suppression. Especially low-speed and low-altitude drones can effectively make up for the defense blind areas of traditional air defense systems, and carry out uninterrupted tactical suppression on front-line positions, which is more suitable for daily tactical consumption and continuous battlefield pressure maintenance.

Looking forward to the development trend of future modern warfare, the collaborative combat mode of drones and missiles will become more mature, and their usage ratio will also form a stable development rule in different combat stages.

In the short-term high-intensity surprise attack stage, missiles will still occupy an important combat proportion. Relying on rapid long-range strike capability, they will complete the destruction of core defensive forces and key facilities, and seize the initiative of the battlefield in the shortest time. At this stage, the input proportion of missiles will increase significantly, forming a joint strike situation with high-performance reconnaissance and strike integrated drones.

When the war enters the medium-term tug-of-war consumption stage, the usage proportion of drones will rise rapidly and become the main force of daily battlefield strikes. The combat investment of missiles will tend to be rational and refined, only used for the strike of core key targets, avoiding excessive consumption of high-cost precision equipment.

In the long-term low-intensity confrontation and frontier garrison stage, drones will occupy an absolute dominant usage proportion. With the advantages of low cost and sustainable supply, they will undertake most of the daily patrol, monitoring and tactical interference tasks. Missiles are mostly used as strategic deterrence means, with low daily delivery frequency.

From the perspective of global military equipment development layout, major countries and regional forces are also adjusting their equipment research and development and procurement plans according to this trend. On the premise of maintaining the research and development and reserve of high-performance missile weapons, all parties are increasing the industrial layout of multi-type drones, optimizing drone load performance, remote control range and cluster cooperative combat capability, and continuously enriching drone tactical application scenarios.

It is worth affirming that neither drones nor missiles can independently dominate the whole process of modern warfare. Future regional conflicts and conventional military confrontations pay more attention to the efficient coordination between high-cost precision strike equipment and low-cost large-scale tactical equipment. Missiles focus on quality to complete core strategic blows, and drones focus on quantity to undertake continuous tactical tasks. The two complement each other in tactical positioning and match each other in combat rhythm.

In general, with the continuous progress of electronic information technology, intelligent control technology and intelligent cluster technology, drones will further expand their application boundaries in future wars, and the market usage and battlefield delivery volume will maintain a steady growth trend. Traditional missile weapons will develop towards higher precision, stronger penetration and faster response speed, focusing more on strategic value and core decisive combat effectiveness.

The coordinated development of the two types of equipment will also continuously reshape the tactical thinking and combat mode of modern warfare. While promoting the upgrading of defense equipment systems, it also puts forward higher requirements for the construction of diversified air defense early warning systems and multi-level battlefield defense systems in various regions.

This article only objectively analyzes equipment application data and industry development trends based on public actual combat information, does not involve any national military strategy interpretation, regional conflict position standing and sensitive military core confidential content, focuses on popular science discussion of modern warfare equipment development trends, and is suitable for public platform reading and sharing.
